"Let's All Dance!"

For the third year in a row, MDT has been awarded a generous grant from the prestigious Marin Community Foundation.  The funds will be allocated to expand our exciting "Let’s All Dance!" program which presents teachers and dance based arts education in Marin County elementary and middle Schools.

Under the direction of our Community Dance Director, Cynthia Pepper, our program will extend from elementary schools to middle schools throughout Marin County. Ms. Pepper has over 22 years experience of creating and teaching in outreach programs in the private and public schools from Kindergarten to College aged students. The program will be rich in many forms of dance including ballet, modern, jazz, African, hip-hop and much more. She will use a highly professional group of teachers selected for their expertise in each of their dance techniques. Our objective is to give the students in the community a wide range of dance curriculum culminating in a concert collage where the children perform in their schools the various dance forms they studied. By teaching the series of classes integrating the students into the performance work and showcasing the dances for the schools, our knowledge of pedagogy theory will be given to the students on many levels. For more information on how these programs can be included in your school call (415) 499-8891.

Wells Fargo Grant

Wells Fargo Foundation has for the third year granted Marin Dance Theatre a substantial grant to provide dance scholarship and dance performance in the public schools. MDT will bring an hour-long dance performance to two schools in Marin County utilizing the variety of international performing artists in Marin. The show may include hip-hop, ballet, contemporary, African dance and a variety of ethnic dance forms.

MDT awarded 6th grade Marinwood Middle School student Jessica Arena a scholarship to attend Marin Dance Theatre.

Jessica Arena and Margaret Swarthout

Wells Fargo Foundation is proud to support the dance community as it has been proven "in all its forms, dance makes children smarter".

Make A Difference Day/2003-2004

The Paul Newman Foundation Points of Light Award nationally recognized the Marin Dance Theatre. MDT was given this prestigious certificate for our Let’s All Dance! Program. Directed by Cynthia Pepper our Community Dance Director, it brings dance classes and performances into the public schools. MDT has taught over 100 classes in the school system throughout 2002 and 2003 in the Bay Area. From these classes, we selected boys and girls to join our year-round dance curriculum which resulted in 27 students now actively participating in Marin Dance Theatre’s training program. The boys’ scholarship class has children selected from our Let’s All Dance! community outreach program training free of charge.

MDT created the Make-A-Difference "Year" with full approval and national press recognition. The children in the program were served with one year of dance training rather than just one day. We are grateful and proud of our
association with the Paul Newman Foundation.

Pacific Sun Best of Award 2003

In 2003, The Marin Dance Theatre was awarded the distinguished BEST of Marin Award from The Pacific Sun for our dance classes. MDT received the award through a closed ballot voted on by our community. We were overwhelmingly recognized as having the "Best Dance" in Marin County.

Bread & Roses

Marin Dance Theatre has worked with the Bread and Roses Organization for over nine years bringing dance performances into Marin County retirement communities.
